Pergatory Chasm in Sutton MA

PCWhile on vacation this week, we headed out to Purgatory Chasm in Sutton MA for the day. I haven’t been there in 30 years, easy. I wanted to do something educational as well as an activity to get the kids out and about. I forgot how great this place was.
We packed a cooler and put on our sun block and headed out around 10:30 or so. It was a quick 40 minute ride from Foxboro. When we arrived there was plenty of parking and not to many people. Probably because it was a Tuesday. I’m sure the weekends are busier. Anyway we got a map from the website and decided to go through the Chasm first. It had been a while since I’ve done any kind of hiking or climbing over rocks. We use to go to the Lost River with friends many years ago as well but lately the only thing I climb is the stairs.
The kids loved the many caves and obstacles they had to climb. I enjoyed just being in a place that was so cool! If you were dropped there and didn’t know where you were, you’d think you were some place else in the world.
We had a good workout hiking the trails after as well up and down and all around the Chasm. We got back to the car grabbed the picnic basket, found a table in the shade, had lunch, looked at the pictures we took and just hung on the rocks for a bit. It was very relaxing and we’ll go again soon. Perhaps in the fall. All in all, great day, lots of fun and exercise in the great outdoors! You can’t beat that.
